This Friday night why not start the Labor Day weekend with a nice glass of wine? At the W xyz Lounge inside the Aloft Dulles Airport hotel we have over a dozen selections for you to enjoy.

Nice crisp chardonays, or full bodied reds - the choice is yours!

The W xyz Lounge is open on Sundays through Thursdays from 5pm until Midnight and Fridays and Saturdays till 2am. On certain nights we have great specials, please come by and enjoy.

What's Happening at the Wxyz?

A social scene sizzles at the Wxyz and the happening vibe of the Aloft has lured many to our hip, contemporary Lounge this past summer. We recently welcomed some friends from the Reston Town Center to the Aloft. Kate Tourville from Morton's came back to visit after attending our spectacular Grand Opening Party! Sara McFarlane of IL Fornaio (pictured above with Mimi Bryce, Director of Sales) also came over to join us at an "I am Modern Magazine" reception earlier this month. Like many, our friends from the Reston Town Center are hearing the buzz and waiting to find out what else is happening at the Wxyz this fall! Whatever the occasion may be, it will be delivered with the sophisticated flair and Cosmopolitan cool that is our Aloft signature. Aloft Dulles Lingo Terminology Decoder

Aloha Aloft Fans! Well it is now August 24th, 2009 and although we have been blogging for over a year now, the Aloft Dulles Airport North hotel has been opened for 8 months!

The most common question I hear from our guests is often about our Aloft lingo! "What does that mean?"

Well in an effort to clarify our lingo to you, it is my pleasure to present this guide to translate our Aloft speak:

Aloha = Hello and welcome. Come in and relax as if you were on a vacation or get-a-way.

Aloha Desk = This is our version of a normal hotel front desk to provide you with an A+ service.

Backyard = Our beautiful patio area where you can enjoy a snack, cocktail or useof free Wi-Fi.

Easy Out = There are many easy ways to check out: Throughout the phone, TV or Touch-N-Go.

Touch-N-Go = Self service check-in/out kiosks where you can also print your boarding pass.

In-Touch = Our business center with 2 workstations and printing capabilities.

Lift = Elevators with liquid blue gel floors.

Portal = Front Entrance Way with serene Zen water features to evoke a sense of renewal.

Re:charge = Our state-of-the-art 24 hour Fitness Center with personalized TVs.

Re:fuel = Grab & Go snack items opened 24 hours a day including Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner.

Re:mix = Our Lobby Lounge where you can mix and mingle with other guests over a cocktail.

Re:fresh = What we call our Housekeeping Talent

Rinse = Self service car wash with eco-friendly car detergent.

Splash = Our indoor heated pool open from 6am - 11pm daily.

Tactic = This is our meeting room outfitted with 50" plasma TV and jack-pack for computers.

Talent = Our best in class team members who provide anything/anytime service.

W xyz = The area's hippest, coolest bar/lounge in the Dulles area. Opened 5pm-12am daily.

WC = This is short for "Water Closet" which is either public or guest room restrooms.

So next time you visit us for your 3 day business adventure and you walk through our Portal and arrive at the Aloha Desk and one of our Talent members direct you to Splash by saying, " Aloha, Splash is located past the Lift and WC is on the left hand side across Re:charge." You'll know what that means!

I Am Modern Magazine "MOM'S NIGHT OUT" Soiree

On Thursday, August 2oth, Aloft Dulles hosted a special "Mom's Night Out" reception to welcome "I am Modern Magazine" to the Wxyz. Sassy moms from all over Dulles and the metropolitan area attended this soiree as Mojitos and our signature cocktails flowed throughout the evening. The guests mingled and delighted in the many hors d'oeuvres featured throughout this exciting event. The DJ spinned awesome eclectic music and the party continued until the late evening hours. As the evening progressed and the temperatures cooled down, some of the guests moved the party to the beautifully-lit Courtyard to enjoy the night breeze. Each departing guest was presented with an Aloft goodie bag in our signature pink.

When it comes to stylish parties, the Aloft talents know how to make them happen with great finesse and savvy. Every party should have an element of magic and that's what you are likely to find at the Wxyz Lounge at the Aloft. We hope to see you at many of our upcoming special events this fall!

The Loudoun Summer Music Fest is back for its 6th season, bringing your favorite bands from the 70s, 80s, and 90s to perform live on the lawn at Belmont Country Club. This weekly evening concert is casual, intimate, and family friendly. Dance directly in front of the stage, or spread out your blanket and lawn chairs and give the kids room to play. The KidsFest features entertainment including moon bounces, face painting, and other fun activities. Local food is available for purchase, as well as beer and wine. Please, no pets or tailgate parties. Event held rain or shine.

6th Annual Dogs Sunflower and Peach Festival

It may be the hottest part of the summer, but the Dog Days at Great Country Farms are all about fun with your family and canine companions! Bring the entire family and rover for a romp in the sunflower field and then cool off in our new farm fountain. See how your dog measures up in the "rally and agility course," then let him relax with a dip in the pond. Live music will keep your toes and paws tapping. The Roosterante will be open, featuring peach slushies and peach pies. All canine companions are asked to bring their owners on a leash and sport their finest rabies certification tag. Canine drinking water and scooping bags are provided.

Redskins Position Battles Set to Officially Begin

It'll be a quiet day at Redskins Park today, with no media availability as the Redskins complete preparations for Thursday's preseason opener against the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium.

Still, there's plenty to discuss ahead of this game. Many key position battles will begin, including at Z receiver (flanker) between second-year wideouts Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly; at strong safety between Reed Doughty and Chris Horton; and at kicker between Shaun Suisham and Dave Rayner.

Todd Collins and Colt Brennan supposedly are competing, to a degree, for the No. 2 quarterback position, though I don't really buy that one. Collins has been a steady hand as a No. 2 quarterback for, well, it seems like forever. We all remember what he did in helping the Redskins reach the playoffs in 2007 after Jason Campbell suffered a season-ending injury. Brennan is very popular with fans and extremely confident. The kid also has some ability -- there's no doubt about that.
